SMALL ENTERPRISES LOAN PROGRAMME - SELP

SMALL ENTERPRISES LOAN PROGRAMME - SELP

Objectives of the Program

SELP program aims to to assist overall economic growth, employment creation and financial sector deepening in Turkey. While small enterprises form the backbone of the Turkish economy, accounting for 98% of companies and 70% of employment, they consume only 4% of the total credit volume. The SELP predominantly aims to free small enterprises from their reliance on informal financing sources, and to demonstrate the attractiveness of this market segment to the private Turkish banking sector.

Priority Issues:

The SELP’s prior task is to promote lending activities from financial institutions to small enterprises by providing the SMEs the lending at market prices. For this objective, the selected Turkish commercial banks will disburse credits initially to small enterprises at market in Kocaeli, Ýzmir and Gaziantep.

Location:

To maximise its positive impact on the Turkish small enterprise sector, the SELP was initially launched in three cities – Ýzmir, Gaziantep, and Kocaeli – so that it can create synergy with the EU’s European-Turkish Business Centres established in the same cities. The EU has launched the SELP in Gaziantep on October 14, 2004.
