Cultural Heritage Development Programme of the GAP Region

Scope of the Programme

The grant programme will support projects aimed at the development of cultural heritage and/or the development of cultural tourism. Possible project types include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Inventory related to cultural heritage, which may include archaeological sites (excluding excavations), urban heritage, historic features, tangible and intangible cultural assets.
  • Facilities and materials for promoting cultural heritage (brochures, maps, books, audio/visual materials, etc).
  • Restoration/renovation and management of historic sites.
  • Accommodation and other facilities (e.g. restaurants, cafes, boutique hotels, cultural centres etc) in historic sites and buildings.
  • Development and marketing of local handicrafts, and items of cultural and artistic interest.
  • Skills training to build local capacity for the development of cultural heritage and cultural tourism.

General Evaluation Criteria

The grant programme will positively discriminate in favour of projects that include one or more of the following priority areas:

  • Having a direct impact on employment and bringing added value (innovation, good practice, replicable methodologies etc) to cultural heritage and cultural tourism.
  • Directly supporting cultural tourism.
  • Integrating different activity types related to cultural heritage and cultural tourism.
  • Sustainable projects and projects that have a multiplier impact.

In addition, projects should promote local initiatives, partnerships, participation, social integration and public involvement. The principles of equal opportunity and environmental mainstreaming must be respected.

Duration

Project implementation activities must be completed within 24 months following the signature of the contract.

Location

Activities must take place in the GAP Region i.e., within the boundaries of the following provinces: Adiyaman, Batman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Kilis, Mardin, Siirt, Sanliurfa and Şırnak.
