Districts Programme
Objectives
of the Programme
The
Social Centre component of the Programme aims to increase access by women,
children and the youth to basic social services to develop the sense of
belonging and coexisting in the same neighbourhood. In this respect,
community-building measures, generates resources to facilitate women’s
endeavour to acquire income and develop the capacity of inhabitants to
participate in the activities. The Social Centre will also serve as a local
information centre, from which the targeted population should benefit.
Priority
Issues of the Programme
The
Social Centre Component is primarily designed to serve the needs of women, youth
and children of Fener and Balat. The purposes of the social centre are broad.
The centre will provide a focal point for the community:
- Literacy
and vocational training will be provided to serve education purposes
- Advice
on nutrition and childcare
- A
vaccination programme and clinic for minor ailments will be provided to
increase health standards of the women
- A
nursery, after-school training facility for homework, languages, mathematics
will be provided to increase success at school and to reduce the rate of
dropping out of school
- Computer
literacy and organizational skills will be provided to women
Duration:
The
duration of an action may not exceed 14 months.
Location:
Actions must take
place in the Fener and Balat districts of Istanbul.
